Dehio Graz 1979

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Dehio-Handbuch - Die Kunstdenkmäler Österreichs - Graz was published in 1979 as the third volume in the new Austrian Dehio series started by the Federal Monuments Office in 1976 . 1982 followed the Steiermark the Dehio Styria (without Graz) .

General

The manual lists monuments within the meaning of Section 1 of the Monument Protection Act, i.e. immovable and movable objects of historical, artistic and other cultural significance regardless of whether there is a public interest in their preservation. On the one hand, the Dehio is a tool for monument research, on the other hand it is an art guide, as it should also spread an appreciation for art and cultural monuments.

The 850th anniversary of the city of Graz was the occasion to separate the city from the Dehio zur Steiermark, which is in preparation, and to publish it independently. A deserving guide to Graz was published in 1910 by Walter von Semetkowski , the 7th edition of which appeared in 1971. Graz had in the 1960 improved Dehio Steiermark 1956 a length of 66 pages, which was written by Eduard Andorfer .

In 1974 Horst Schweigert began to take stock of the architectural substance of the city of Graz and completed it in August 1978. In addition to the holdings of Andorfer, castles and palaces by Herwig Ebner and the works of Rochus Kohlbach and art and artists in Styria by Rudolf List were used.
