Eva Frodl-Kraft

Eva Frodl-Kraft (born September 29, 1916 in Vienna , Austria-Hungary ; † May 1, 2011 there ) was an Austrian art historian and monument conservator . She was an expert in medieval stained glass .

Life

Victor Kraft's daughter studied history and art history at the University of Vienna and also trained as a photographer. In 1944/55 she documented all the works of art that had been hidden there in the Altaussee salt mine for the Austrian Federal Monuments Office. From 1972 to 1979 she was head of the Institute for Austrian Art Research of the Federal Monuments Office (BDA) and made the Dehio, originally intended as an art guide, the basic inventory for the development of the Austrian monument inventory.

In 1973 she completed her habilitation at the University of Vienna. In 1979 she was appointed corresponding member of the Austrian Academy of Sciences . Frodl-Kraft was a founding member and president of the international Corpus Vitrearum Medii Aevi . She contributed to the research and maintenance of the art genre of medieval stained glass.

Her husband Walter Frodl was President of the Austrian Federal Monuments Office from 1965 to 1970.

Eva Frodl-Kraft was buried in her father's grave at the Hietzinger Friedhof in Vienna.
