Deanery Cottbus-Neuzelle
The Cottbus-Neuzelle deanery is one of the three deaneries in the Roman Catholic diocese of Görlitz . It lies on the territory of the state of Brandenburg and includes the parishes and parish offices of Beeskow, Cottbus, Eisenhüttenstadt, Guben, Neuzelle and Spremberg.
history
On August 4, 2004, Bishop Rudolf Müller decreed the reorganization of the previous deaneries Cottbus, Finsterwalde-Lübben, Görlitz, Neuzelle and Senftenberg as of September 1, 2004. The reason for the restructuring was the decreasing number of believers and pastors in the Görlitz diaspora. In addition, it was foreseeable that around half of the previous parishes and parish curatios in the diocese would not be able to continue to exist independently. Already in the pastoral plan of the diocese of October 16, 2001, a merger of parishes had been prepared.
dean
The dean and his deputy are appointed by the bishop. The priests of the deanery convention have the right to propose an election from their own ranks. The current dean is the provost of the provost parish Zum Guten Hirten Cottbus. The dean is responsible for the implementation of regular dean's conventions for the exchange of information between the priests and staff. In the event of the death of a dean's priest, the dean is responsible for organizing the funeral.
