Location of Delger mörön in the catchment area of the Selenga (left) |
The Delger mörön ( Mongolian Дэлгэр мөрөн ) is the 445 km long, northwest or left-hand source river of the Selenga in Mongolia ( Asia ).
course
The Delger mörön rises in the northwest of the Chöwsgöl-Aimag in the southern part of the Ulan Taiga Mountains . Its source lies in a valley interspersed with mountain lakes directly south of its highest mountain, the 3351 m high Beltschir Uul .
The river, which initially strives south, flows a few kilometers below its source through the Ulaan Taiga National Park . For a short distance it forms a border river between Russia and Mongolia. Later, leaving the foothills of the Ulan-Taiga Mountains and passing the village of Burentogtoch , it runs in a predominantly south-easterly direction and turns a little after passing the city of Mörön on its last kilometers to the south.
Finally, the Delger mörön joins in the southern part of the Chöwsgöl-Aimag about 1.5 km after the confluence of the Bügsiin coming from the west at an altitude of about 1176 m with the Ider finally coming from the south to the Selenga , a southwest tributary of Lake Baikal .
Hydrology and ice drift
The catchment area of the Delger Mörön is around 26,600 km². The river is covered by ice from October or November to mid or late April each year. When ice and snow melt in spring and summer , floods often occur on the river, whose mean discharge (MQ) is 33 m³ / s and whose maximum discharge usually takes place in June.
Flora and fauna
The Delgermörön flows through steppe areas, among other things. For example, grayling , trout and taimen from the salmon fish family live in the river .
