'Delizia di Vaprio' is a white wine variety . The new breed originated in 1908 from a cross of the varieties ' Sicilien ' x ' Muscat d'Alexandrie '. The breeder was Alberto Piròvano , who realized numerous grape varieties at the Istituto di Frutticoltura ed Elettrogenetica di Roma in Rome . 'Delizia di Vaprio' has been officially added to the list of permitted table grape varieties .

Pirovano later used the variety as a cross partner for the varieties ' Formosa ', ' Ignea ' and ' Marengo '.

There are smaller plantings in Italy, Romania, Argentina and Portugal.

Ampelographic varietal characteristics

  • The shoot tip is open. She is hairy white wool. The young leaves are lightly hairy and speckled copper-colored (anthocyanin spots).
  • The medium-sized leaves are bright green, five-lobed and deeply indented. The stalk bay is often closed and open and the leaf ends overlap. The leaf margin is bluntly serrated. The teeth are set medium-wide compared to other grape varieties. The leaf surface is slightly blistered.
  • The cylindrical grape is medium-sized, shouldered and loose berries. The elongated berries are large. They are whitish in color even when fully ripe. The berry pod is thick-walled, the pulp has a subtle nutmeg aroma.

Maturity: approx. 16 - 20 days after the grape variety ' Gutedel ' and thus belongs to the grape varieties of the early second maturation period (see the chapter in the article grape variety). It is still one of the early ripening varieties.
