Delta Spirit is an American band from San Diego . The band is known for their unusual instruments and the ability of their members to play multiple instruments.

history

Jon Jameson and Brandon Young, who had previously played in different bands together, decided in 2005 to form a band with their boyfriend Sean Walker. Matt Vasquez joined them after Young saw him busking at two that morning. Delta Spirit recorded their first EP I Think I've Found It in the home studio of Kelly Winrich, who had been friends with Vasquez since he was 18 years old. Winrich then joined the band in the first year of its existence.

Their first album, Ode to Sunshine , the band recorded in a cabin in the mountains near San Diego and released it self-published end of 2007. One of the songs on this album was called Trashcan ( English trash) because such during the recording of the song served as an instrument. Ode to Sunshine was released again on August 26th, 2008 with a new artwork (Winrich's great uncle Dr. Thomas Payne can be seen on the cover) and a new version of the song "Streetwalker", this time on the Rounder Records label . The band has appeared on American television several times, including Late Night with Conan O'Brien in 2008 . Walker left the band in the fall of 2009.

The second album History from Below was released on June 8, 2010. Historian Howard Zinn was the inspiration for the album title . Many of the songs were composed in 2009 while on tour in hotel rooms using an acoustic guitar. On November 15, 2010, Delta Spirit played a live concert on DirecTV's Guitar Center Sessions program and gave an interview to presenter Nic Harcourt . This was followed by other television appearances with Jimmy Kimmel , Johnny Carson and Jools Holland . The band played 2 tours in the United States and one in Europe in 2010. William McLaren joined the band in 2011. He had previously played in the bands The Willowz and Cults . In April 2011 Delta Spirit played at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in Indio .

In the summer of 2011, the band members rented a rehearsal room in southern California, which the Cold War Kids , among others, had already used to work on their third album. The recordings then took place in Woodstock in July of the same year . The album was produced by Chris Coady and finally released under the name Delta Spirit on March 13, 2012. In August 2012, the band performed at the Lollapalooza Festival in Chicago . The band members have lived in Brooklyn, New York, since 2013 . In 2016, Matthew "Matt" Vasquez released a solo album for the first time under the title Solicitor Returns .

Delta Spirit's music has been featured in various television series, including the second season of Sons of Anarchy , Grey's Anatomy , the soundtrack of The Walking Dead , the ninth season of American Dad, and Lethal Weapon (television series) .
