Railway line Fredericia – Flensburg to Lunderskov

Troldhede – Kolding – Vejen Jernbane (TKVJ) or Troldhedebanen was a Danish private railway company . The route led from Kolding to Troldhede and had a branch line between Gesten and Vejen . It was the longest private railway in Denmark.

history

The railway line from Troldhede to Kolding with a branch line to Vejen was included in the extensive railway law of May 27, 1908 ( Danish Jernbaneloven af May 27, 1908 ). The concession for the route was granted on June 11, 1913. The construction took place in the period from 1913 to 1917. Among the concessionaires were the two initiators, machine manufacturer K. Konstantin Hansen from Kolding and the businessman and politician Johannes Lauridsen from Vejen, who later became director of the National Bank.

The inauguration of the sections Troldhede – Kolding with 87.9 km and Gesten – Vejen with 9.6 km took place on August 25, 1917.

The company's first operations manager was engineer PH Tarp, who from 1915 to 1919 was also operations manager at Kolding Sydbaner and Kolding-Egtved Jernbane . The architect of the station building was Robert V. Schmidt .

The route was very economical in the first year, but it declined from 1924 until World War II . During the war, sales increased again as extensive lignite transports had to be carried out.

After the war, the economic situation deteriorated again. This led to the fact that the branch line between Gesten and Vejen was closed on April 1, 1951. In 1965 the municipality of Lejrskov Sogn no longer wanted to contain the route. Since the deficit was no longer covered, the Troldhedebane was closed on March 31, 1968.

Track and vehicles

Troldhede station had a separate engine shed and a turntable . At the Kærhede stop, which had a loading track, a narrow-gauge railway joined. Skjødebjerg also had a loading platform with a ramp. A two-hour locomotive shed and a turntable existed in Gesten station until the line to Vejen was closed. The connection to the shed was dismantled in 1951. There was also a locomotive shed in Vejen. The depot was located between the Koldingskov stop and the Kolding station . In 1942 a total of 13 locomotives and railcars could be stored in the four locomotive sheds.

Over the years, the railway owned a total of 15 steam locomotives, some of which were newly purchased. Of these, the TVKJ 12 tender locomotive built by Winterthur in Switzerland in 1916 is still available today at the Sydjyllands Veterantog .

To this end, between 1926 and 1952, diesel locomotives were procured to replace steam locomotives and passenger traffic was carried out with railcars. Numerous freight and passenger coaches were available for freight and passenger traffic. When the line was closed, usable vehicles were handed over to other railway companies.
