Delyth Jane Morgan, Baroness Morgan of Drefelin (* thirtieth August 1961 ) is a British functionary of charity and politician of the Labor Party , and since 2004 as Life Peeress member of the House of Lords .

Life

After attending school and studying at University College London , Delyth Morgan was campaign coordinator for Shelter , an organization to combat homelessness , from 1987 to 1989, and then director of the child protection organization Working for Childcare until 1992 and then director of the national campaign against from 1992 to 1996 Asthma . She then served as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Breakthrough Breast Cancer , a nationwide organization dedicated to the fight against and education of breast cancer , from 1996 to 2005 .

By a letters patent dated June 11, 2004 Delyth Morgan was raised to the nobility as a life peeress with the title Baroness Morgan of Drefelin , of Drefelin in the County of Dyfed . Shortly thereafter took place on 5 July 2004 its introduction ( Introduction ) as a member of the House of Lords . In the House of Lords, she initially belonged to the Labor Party faction .

During her membership in the House of Lords, she served as Baroness in Waiting Parliamentary Secretary ( Whip ) of the Government Group between 2007 and 2008, as well as Spokeswoman for the Labor Group on Municipalities and Local Government, Labor and Pensions, Scotland and Wales .

She was then appointed Parliamentary Undersecretary of State by Prime Minister Gordon Brown in January 2008 in the Department of Innovation, Universities and Skills, where she was responsible for Intellectual Property and Quality. Thereafter, Baroness Morgan was Parliamentary Undersecretary for Children, Schools and Families from October 2008 to May 2010, most recently since June 2009 with responsibility for children, young people and families. After the Labor Party's electoral defeat in the general election on May 6, 2010 , she assumed the role of spokeswoman for the opposition for education until 2011 .

After Baroness Morgan became CEO and patron of the campaign against breast cancer in July 2011 , she left the Labor Party and has been a member of the so-called Crossbencher group ever since . At times, she also chaired the Department of Health's Patient Suffrage Working Group, a member of the National Health Service's (NHS) National Cancer Working Group, and a member of the Executive Board of the Association of Medical Research Welfare Organizations .
