Demba Maïnassara

Demba Maïnassara (* 1910 in Damana ; † August 1, 1996 in Niamey ; also Damba Maïnassara ) was a Nigerien officer .

Life

Demba Maïnassara belonged to the Zarma subgroup Sudié. He served during the colonial rule of France in Niger for thirty years in the French armed forces . There he received the rank of captain in 1957 . When Niger gained independence in 1960, Demba Maïnassara was one of six officers who were accepted into the new Nigerien armed forces , alongside Bala Arabé , Amadou Diallo, Henri Dupuis-Yacouba , Seyni Kountché and Moussa Tondi . In 1961 he was promoted to major and named historically the first Chief of the General Staff of the Nigerien Armed Forces. As such he was, most recently with the rank of colonel , active during the First Republic (1960–1974) under President Hamani Diori and PPN-RDA party leader Boubou Hama . Maïnassara retired in 1969. His successor as Chief of the General Staff was Bala Arabé.

Maïnassara was married and had 16 children.
