Demetrios Palaiologos , lat .: Demetrius Palaeologus, gr .: Δημήτριος Παλαιολόγος (* 1407 ; † 1470 as monk David in Adrianople ), from the dynasty of the palaeologists was despot of Morea , de jure 1428–1460 and de facto 1436–1438 and 1451 –1460, ruler of Lemnos 1423–1440, ruler of Mesembria 1440–1451 and ruler of Thasos 1460–1466.

Life

He was a younger son of the Byzantine emperor Manuel II Palaiologos and his Serbian wife Helena Dragaš . His brothers were the Byzantine emperors John VIII Palaiologos and Constantine XI. Palaiologos , the despot of Morea Thomas Palaiologos and Theodor II. Palaiologos , also despot of Morea.

On July 4, 1423, the very young, Ottoman-friendly Demetrios left his parents' house in Constantinople to go to the nearby Genoese colony of Pera . The aim was to reach the Ottoman territory.

Demetrios Palaiologos married twice, the first time in 1436 with Zoe Paraspondyle and the second time in the year Teodora Asanina († 1470), daughter of Paul Asanes from the house of Assen .

  • Helena Palaiologos (* Aprjl 1442 † 1470 Adrianople) married Sultan Mehmed II in 1460 .
