The demonstrations for the closing of all slaughterhouses ( English March to close all slaughterhouses , French Marche pour la fermeture des abattoirs ) are an annual international series of protest events. The aim of the demonstrations is to end the breeding and slaughter of animals, including the abolition of fishing . The demonstrations demand the recognition of animal rights . In addition, ecological reasons against the keeping of livestock are given .

Origin and worldwide development

The first marches for the closure of all slaughterhouses took place in France in 2012 . In the following years the number of participating countries and cities grew. In 2018 around 40 cities in countries such as Canada , Australia , Argentina and Japan took part .

In Germany, the demonstrations for the closure of all slaughterhouses are largely organized by Animal Rights Watch and have already taken place in Bielefeld , Chemnitz , Göttingen , Hamburg , Hanover , Kassel , Mannheim , Munich and Münster , among others .

In Switzerland , the demonstration for the closure of all slaughterhouses was organized by the animal rights organization Tier im Fokus from 2014 in Bern .

requirements

The demonstrations are aimed at both politicians and consumers . Political appeals include changes in education, a ban on advertising animal products, and changes in subsidies in favor of plant-based foods and organic-vegan farming . The harmful effects of the animal industry should be given greater consideration in environmental policy . The end of the breeding of animals should ultimately also enable the categorical closure of the slaughterhouses. Apart from the political level, everyone is called to a vegan lifestyle .
