Joseph Germain Stanislaus Denis Brodeur (born October 12, 1930 in Montreal , Québec ; † September 26, 2013 ) was a Canadian sports photographer and ice hockey goalkeeper who won the Olympic bronze medal in 1956 .

resume

Denis Brodeur grew up in the French-speaking part of Canada and was considered a talented ice hockey goalkeeper at a young age , so that he participated in the training camp of the Cleveland Barons from the American Hockey League in the summer of 1955 and then received the offer for a professional contract. However, he turned down the offer because he should not have been allowed to participate in the 1956 Olympic ice hockey tournament, from which professional players were excluded.

At the end of January 1956, Denis Brodeur competed with the Canadian national team at the Winter Olympics in the Italian winter sports resort of Cortina d'Ampezzo . After a sovereign preliminary round without defeat and only one goal conceded, Canada moved into the final round, where they finally won the bronze medal.

As a result, Brodeur continued to play ice hockey, including in the Eastern Hockey League , but devoted himself more to photography and established himself as one of the leading sports photographers in Canada. He became a long-time team photographer for the Montréal Expos from the MLB baseball league and the Montréal Canadiens ice hockey team from the NHL . In addition, books appeared in which he contributed as an author, illustrator and photographer.

In 2006 he sold his collection of over 110,000 photos to the NHL ice hockey league.

family

Denis Brodeur had two sons, Denis jr. and Martin . Martin Brodeur was also an ice hockey goalkeeper.
