Denise Teela (* as Denise Whitten on June 30, 1979 in Anchorage ) is an American biathlete .

Denise Teela lives in Anchorage and trains in Heber City . She studied at the University of Wisconsin and is married to the US biathlete Jeremy Teela . She started biathlon in 2002 and moved up to the US national team in 2003. In the same year she made her international debut at a Biathlon European Cup race in Forni Avoltri , but was disqualified. Only a little later, however, she reached 14th place in the individual and sixth in the sprint in the following races in Ridnaun . The highlight of Teela's first season was her participation in the 2004 Biathlon World Championships in Oberhof , where she was 73rd in the individual, 65th in the sprint and 14th in the relay competition with Rachel Steer , Jill Krause and Sara Granroth . After the World Championships, the American also made her debut in pure World Cup races and ran her best placings in the World Cup in sprint races in Lake Placid and Fort Kent with 62nd place. In the subsequent military world championship, she ran on 28th place in the 10-kilometer cross-country skiing and the biathlon sprint and reached sixth place with the military patrol. Over the next three years, Teela kept switching between World and European Cups. Her best results in the European Cup she achieved in 2005 with fourth place in the sprint and five in the pursuit at a poorly filled European Cup in Gurnigel . In 2006 she took part in the European Biathlon Championships in Langdorf , where she was 59th in the individual, 27th in the sprint and 39th in the pursuit race. With the relay, Teela ran as the starting runner in 16th and thus last place. A planned start with the relay at the Biathlon World Championships 2007 in Antholz did not materialize. After the 2006/07 season she only started in the Biathlon NorAm Cup .
