Deobold Van Dalen

Deobold Bertrude Van Dalen (born January 1, 1911 in Flint , Michigan , † June 29, 1995 in Oakland , California ) was an American educationalist .

He graduated from Iowa State University and received his PhD from the University of Michigan in 1943 . From 1942 to 1946 he served in the United States Navy . He was then a professor, first of sports, later of education, at the University of Pittsburgh ; In 1965 he moved to the University of California at Berkeley . He is best known for his publications on the history of sport.
