Deolinda [ diuˈlĩdɐ ] is a popular Portuguese musical group that was influenced by Fado and its traditional origins.

history

The group's musical project began in 2006 when the brothers Pedro da Silva Martins and Luís José Martins offered their cousin Ana Bacalhau , who was then the singer of the group Lupanar, to sing four of their composed songs. Realizing that the cousin's voice was a perfect match for the lyrics and melody, they also invited José Pedro Leitão, the bassist of Lupanar (now Ana Bacalhau's husband) to join the group, and Deolinda was formed.

The song Contado Ninguém Acredita (Eng. Nobody Believes Me ) was included in the CD Novos Talentos (Eng. New Talents ) (2007); a compilation produced and distributed in Portugal by the well-known FNAC retail chain .

On April 21, 2008, the debut album Canção ao Lado (Eng .: song from next door ) was released and reached its best position in Portugal at the end of October 2008 with third place in the official charts of the Associação Fonográfica Portuguesa . Together with a return to the charts and two placements before, it was represented in the charts for a total of four weeks.

The album reached gold status in October 2008, went platinum in December, and went double-platinum in 2009, meaning sales of more than 40,000 units.

On March 2, 2009, the Europe-wide marketing of the album Canção ao Lado began through World Connection . In April 2009 it reached number 8 on the World Music Charts Europe , and in May it rose to number 4 on the same charts.

Also in April 2009, the group began their first European tour. They played in several countries, such as B. in Holland, Germany and Switzerland, and on return to Portugal also several concerts in cities like Porto , Braga and Barcelos .

The album Canção ao Lado was voted 10th on the list of best listeners in a poll by the radio station Antena 3 . This poll for the best Portuguese album from 1994 to 2009 was carried out in April 2009 and participants were able to choose from a list of 100 suggestions.

On April 23, 2010 the band released their next album with the title Dois Selos e Um Carimbo (German: two stamps and a stamp ), the only single release of which was the song Um Contra o Outro (German: one against the other ). This second album reached number 1 on the Portuguese album charts and went platinum in November 2010.

The song Parva que Sou ( how stupid I am ), which was played for the first time in January 2011 at four concerts in the Coliseu dos Recreios in Lisbon and in Porto and was also recorded live as a video, was won over by its ironic and critical text about young unemployed People directly to the anthem of a whole generation.

After the release of two more albums, Mundo Pequenino and Outras Histórias and numerous concerts in Portugal, Latin America and other countries, the group announced a break for an indefinite period in November 2017.
