The tree whisperer (original title: Heartwood ) is an American film drama from 1998. Directed by Lanny Cotler , who also wrote the script together with Stephen L. Cotler .

action

The sawmill Logan Reeser is the largest employer in the Californian town Deroy. It is in economic difficulties, which leads to the takeover of the plant by another company. The new owners plan to cut down a previously protected forest as well as layoffs.

Frank Burris, who lives in the forest nearby, falls in love with Sylvia Orsini, the daughter of the factory manager. Burris finds gold in the forest, which makes it possible to improve the company's economic situation.

The film was shot in the Californian towns of Branscomb and Willits (both located in Mendocino County ) and in San Francisco .

Reviews

The industry journal Variety described the film as a “ coming-of-age love story”. Film-Dienst wrote that the film was a "largely solidly staged small-town and nature drama that combines its ecological concerns, the preservation of California's redwood forests, with a love story and a generation conflict". The film magazine Cinema wrote that the film was "a little naive".
