Der Berg is a Swiss feature film by director Markus Imhoof from 1990 . The film drama is based on the true tragedy of the double murder of the Wetterwart couple Heinrich and Lena Haas in 1922 on the Säntis .

action

In 1922, at the time of the action, a weather warden had to spend the whole winter alone with supplies on the 2500 meter high Säntis. During the long winter it is cut off from the rest of the world and contact with the outside world is only possible via the telegraph poles. After a tragic accident by the previous weather warden Jetzler, who went nuts, the lonely weather station is now to be occupied by a married couple. Joseph Manser is unemployed and briefly marries pregnant Lena in order to get the job. Gregor Kreuzpointner, a former Austro-Hungarian officer with war experience in the Dolomites, feels betrayed by Manser. He then dares to climb the mountain for the first time in winter to prove to the world that the post is actually his. He reaches the summit where there is inevitably a life-and-death struggle between men and women.
