Zirkusluft is a German television film by Werner Masten from 2002 based on a script by Andreas Föhr and Thomas Letocha . It is the 37th episode of the crime series Der Bulle von Tölz with Ottfried Fischer as the main actor in the role of Chief Inspector Benno Berghammer. It was first broadcast on October 2, 2002 on Sat.1 .

action

The rich farmer Johann Kiening is found stabbed to death. According to coroner Dr. Robert Sprung, the murder weapon is a double-edged knife. There are no defensive violations, so the attack came as a surprise. It is also noticeable that the branch channel runs exactly at a right angle.

For the Commissioners Benno Berghammer and Sabrina Lorenz, there is a considerable circle of people with a more or less strong motive for murder, above all Kiening's grown son, who lived on his father's money and whom old Kiening wanted to turn off the money. There is also a financially troubled neighbor, whom Kiening threatened to ruin a multi-million dollar property deal with the building contractor Anton Rambold. And finally there is a small traveling circus that Kiening has given winter quarters to for many years, but suddenly wanted to put it on the street.

At the circus, Benno Berghammer meets the tamer Madeleine Gartlach, with whom he had a short, passionate affair 17 years ago. It turns out that Kiening senior had been in a relationship with Madeleine for years and now wanted to marry her. She is tired of circus life and finally wanted to lead a normal life. However, her 16-year-old son Leo was firmly against the marriage. The question of whether this is why Leo killed his future stepfather becomes even more spicy when Madeleine confesses to the superintendent that Leo is his son. To make matters worse, the offspring is on probation for several property crimes and yet, in the short time the inspector has known him, stole his car for a jaunt and stole several wallets, including his mother Resi's. Finally, Berghammer discovers Leo's remarkable darts talent and speaks to Madeleine directly about it. She replies that Leo learned to throw knives from the former knife thrower Richie, who has not performed as such in the circus since his partner was killed by a miscarriage. Richie never got over it; she took care of him and he was attached to her like a child. He had asked her if she would go with him when the circus closed; then she told him she would stay in Bad Toelz because of Benno.

The superintendent now knows how to get hold of the murderer. He goes to Richie and forbids him to have any contact with Madeleine - she wants it that way too. Richie wants to ram a knife into his body, but Berghammer is wearing a protective vest.

After Richie's arrest, the inspector wants to know from Frau Gartlach whether she has something to say to him about paternity; Six month children are rather rare. She admits she lied to him about this; she just wanted him to be Leo's father.
