The Schandfleck is an Austrian-Hungarian homeland film drama from 1917 by Luise Kolm and Jakob Fleck with Liane Haid in the leading role.

action

Luise Reindorfer and the miller's son Florian, who is almost the same age, have known each other since childhood. One day after Florian had been away for a while to study, the two meet again at a picture of Our Lady. A deep affection grows from the old bond between two children, and both young people decide to stay together from then on. Luise tells her father Josef about her wedding plans, but the old man doesn't want to know anything about it because the miller, Florian's father, has been his mortal enemy for ages. From now on Josef forbids his Leni to interact with Florian. Luise doesn't take the father's announcement that seriously, as she believes that the old man will calm down and agree to the marriage at some point. Only when even the intervention of Florian's mother with Reindorfer-Josef fails, Luise's hope fades.

Concerned about her love happiness prevented by her father, Luise rushes to the same and asks him again about his reasons for his rigid attitude and rejection of Florian. She learns that her father is not her father and that her mother gave birth to her out of wedlock. Florian is her previously unknown brother. That is too much for the peasant girl, who then flees home and hearth and wants to take up a post as a maid with friends. On the way there she meets the grass floor farmer Simon, who asks her into his house and offers her to look after his little daughter Burgl, who became an orphan at an early age, as a nanny. Leni gladly agrees, who soon wins Burgl's heart and is not entirely indifferent to the grass-soil farmer either. Meanwhile, Florian has learned the reasons for his rejection by Leni's father and their escape. He then loses all moral hold and begins to drink. One day he is found with shattered bones at the foot of a rock face ...

Production notes

criticism

"... because if the plot is so rich and permeated with high morality, the basic conditions for a first-class work have been created. Louise Kolm and Jakob Fleck, who have already made so many good films, borrow that the direction is appropriate to the value of the film. In addition, there is the splendid performance by well-known and popular Viennese actors, including Liane Haid, ... a worthy representative of her. "
