The slave of the Amazons is an adventure film from the year 1967 with Martine Beswick, Michael Latimer and Steven Berkoff.

action

During a safari, David Marchant is overpowered by members of a primitive tribe and taken to a temple to sacrifice him to their god. Just before the tribe members can kill Marchant, he touches the statue of the deity, whereupon a gap opens up in the time through which he can escape.

He finds himself in a jungle where he meets the blonde Saria. She is a member of a tribe of blonde women who have been enslaved by a tribe of brunette women. The ruler of the dark-haired tribe, Kari, wants to make Marchant her lover. But he, repulsed by Kari's cruelty, takes the side of the slaves, whereupon he is imprisoned.

Filled with uncertainty about what to expect, Marchant not only looks for a way out of his prison, but also back to his time.

production

The film was shot in just four weeks between January 10 and February 22, 1966 at Elstree Studios in Borehamwood . The shooting took place exclusively in studio scenes. Stage structures and costumes that were originally made for the film A Million Years Before Our Time were used for the production . This practice was intended to put into perspective the £ 140,000 cost that was a million years before our time . Martine Beswick also played a role in A Million Years Before Our Time .

In Germany, the film opened in cinemas on February 10, 1967, and in the USA in January of the same year. In the UK, The Slave of the Amazons was slated to feature as the main film in a double screening with The Dark Old House , but director Carreras found the film not good enough to meet the standards of the Hammer films. It was then severely shortened and appeared as the second film in a double screening with The Devil's Bride . Therefore, the film only opened in Great Britain in July 1968.

The screenplay was written by the director Michael Carreras, but he is listed in the credits under the pseudonym Henry Younger.

The framework of Der Sklave der Amazonen is strongly based on that of the film Amazons of the Primeval Forest (original title: Prehistoric Women ) from 1950. In the USA, The Slave of the Amazons was also shown in cinemas under the title Prehistoric Women .

DVD release

The slave of the amazons was released in Germany on April 1, 2004 on DVD as number 14 of the Hammer Edition .

Reviews

The lexicon of international film saw "very undemanding entertainment enriched with brutality and a little sex."

“The ladies, some of whom are visually quite appealing, are a nice visual appearance, but they can no longer save the cinematographic banter. All in all an extremely weak performance. "

- DVD-FORUM.AT

“ For me, The Slave of the Amazons is one of the best 'Girls Glamor' films in the Hammer series and even if everyone seems to call it bad and therefore received little attention, everyone should form their own opinion, because As already written above: Tastes are different and I really enjoyed it. "

- WICKED-VISION.COM

"The film is primitive and boring in every way."
