The death scream of the cannibals (original title: Primitif ) is an Indonesian adventure film belonging to the exploitation genre by director Sisworo Gautama Putra .
The production was created in 1978 in the wake of the Italian cannibal film boom of the late 1970s. In Germany, the film was given the lurid " cannibals " film title, not least because of its better marketing opportunities, even though no human meat is consumed. Instead, the genre-common animal sacrifice scenes are displayed here.
A dubbed German version was first performed on March 7, 1980.

The three ethnology students Rika, Amri and Tommy travel through the Indonesian jungle with Muskram as a guide and the superstitious native Lahang in order to provide evidence of the existence of so-called “Stone Age people”. On their long and arduous walk they first visit the peaceful and well-researched tribe of the Pangayan. Driven by adventurous curiosity and against the will of Muskrat, they penetrate deeper into the jungle to find an isolated, as yet unexplored people.
They finally come to the bank of a raging river, where they soon begin building a wooden raft . In the strong currents of the untamed waters, however, the self-made means of transport capsized and the group of five was separated. The survivors suddenly find themselves in the area of a primitive jungle tribe that is supposed to feed itself cannibalistically. Lahang and Bisma die staggered in time in the dense jungle.
At some point Rika and Amri are taken prisoner, where they are henceforth exposed to the humiliation and barbaric hustle and bustle of the natives. Meanwhile, the injured Tommy wanders around on his own until he happens to come to the cave system, which serves as accommodation for the primitives. His fellow students Rika and Amri are also held there in an oversized cage. When they escape and meet Tommy, the friends initially think they are safe. When the trio is caught again by the savages, brutal fighting ensues. The athletic Amri kills the opposing cannibal leader. This gives them a small head start, which the group finally used to escape. At the end of the film, the wounded Tommy succumbs to his injuries on a self-made raft.
Reviews
The lexicon of the international film wrote that the "meager expedition story " only functions as a "vehicle for horror and disgust images of killing rituals and peculiar dietary practices."
The lexicon of the horror film notes that the film is a "conceptless series of amateurishly filmed scenes" . Furthermore, the story would have "no sense or purpose" .
