Saltsjöbaden Interzonal Tournament 1952
The 1952 interzonal tournament was the second interzonal tournament of the international chess association FIDE and took place from September to October 1952 in the Swedish cities of Saltsjöbaden and Stockholm . Originally started with 22 players, the Argentine Julio Bolbochán gave up after two rounds due to illness. Alexander Kotow confidently secured victory with a three-point lead over second-placed Tigran Petrosyan and, like the players in places two to eight, moved into the 1953 Candidates Tournament , which, however, Vasily Smyslow won.
The first interzonal tournament had already taken place in Saltsjöbaden in 1948 .
