Der Volksfreund (Swiss daily newspaper)
Der Volksfreund was a Swiss daily newspaper that appeared in Untertoggenburg from 1878 to 1997 and 2001, respectively . The newspaper was a product of the former Flawil printing company (now Galledia).
The newspaper, founded in 1878, was a publication medium for the communities of the former St. Gallen district of Untertoggenburg and was the official publication organ of the communities of Flawil and Degersheim . It replaced the Anzeiger Saturday newspaper published from 1868 to 1878 . From 1894 to 1899 Victor Hardung was the editor of Volksfreund .
In 1998 the FDP -near Volksfreund and the Wiler Zeitung , which the Zehnder printing company had sold to the Flawil printing company in 1962, were merged under the new name Die Wiler Zeitung - Der Volksfreund . The background to the association was a cooperation with the St. Galler Medienhaus Zollikofer , which published the St. Galler Tagblatt . While the regional section continues to be independent, the coat has since been obtained from the St. Galler Tagblatt . In return, the Wiler regional edition of the daily newspaper was discontinued, and the subscribers went to the Flawil printing company. The Wiler Zeitung - The People's Friendknew two local editions, one for Flawil, Uzwil and Wil and one for Hinterthurgau . Since 2002 the newspaper is only called Wiler Zeitung , the title Volksfreund has been given up.
In 2014, St. Galler Tagblatt AG, part of the NZZ media group , took over the rights to the Wiler Zeitung ; after Tamedia had already tried unsuccessfully.
