The Iron Glove is an American film from 1952. Alternative title: Bells at midnight .

action

In a village church in the south of France , the church bells begin to ring. For years they had remained silent, as the church's greatest treasure seemed lost - a medieval iron glove studded with diamonds. Only when the relic returns to the church should the bells ring again. The priest finds the glove and a dead American.

Years ago. The Allies land in Normandy . The paratroopers Mike Blake ends up in no man's land between the fronts. It comes to a meeting with the German Paul Rona. He tries to bribe Blake with a valuable iron glove in order to be released by him. Rona is an international antique dealer in private life who even had a shop in New York before the war . The iron glove is clearly a spoil of war that Rona wanted to steal from France. Blake is buried in a bombing raid and Rona is able to escape wearing the glove.

After the war, Blake returned to France . In his homeland he is wanted on a wanted list, as there is suspicion of stealing the glove as spoils of war. He comes to France to find the real thief and to prove his innocence. In Paris he met the tour guide Christine; together they make their way to the south of France, where they can finally meet Rona. In a showdown in the village church where the glove originally came from, Rona is shot and Mike puts the glove back on the church altar without being recognized.
