Derek Pritchard, Baron Pritchard

Derek Wilbraham Pritchard, Baron Pritchard Kt DL ( June 8, 1910 , † June 18, 1995 ) was a British colonel , banker and economic manager who became a member of the House of Lords in 1975 as a life peer under the Life Peerages Act 1958 .

Life

Military career and economic manager

Pritchard completed his school education at Clifton College and completed his military service as an officer in the Royal Artillery British Army in the Far East between 1939 and 1945 during the Second World War, and was finally promoted to colonel . As such, he served as director of radar procurement at the headquarters of the United Chiefs of Staff of the Allied Forces in Washington, DC

After the end of the war he worked as an economic manager and was first deputy chairman between 1965 and 1966 and then chairman of the British National Export Council from 1966 to 1968 . For his services to the export industry was on January 1, 1968, Knight Bachelor beaten and led from then the name suffix "Sir". On November 1, 1968, Peter Runge succeeded him in his role as Chairman of the National Export Council.

Pritchard was then chairman of the board of the brewery group Allied Breweries from 1968 to 1970 and chairman of the board of the tobacco industry company Carreras Tobacco Company from 1970 to 1972 . In addition, between 1972 and 1975 he served as CEO of Rothmans International, which also belongs to the tobacco industry, and President of the Institute of Directors (IoD), an institution founded in 1903 to represent and support business managers.

Northamptonshire Sheriff and House of Lords

On November 16, 1972, he became one of the Sheriff of Northamptonshire appointed. After that, on February 11, 1974, he was appointed Deputy Lieutenant of Northamptonshire. On November 14, 1974 he was appointed High Sheriff for the County of Northamptonshire for the Chamber of Civil Matters ( Queen's Bench Division ) of the High Court of Justice .

By a letters patent dated January 30, 1975, Pritchard was raised to the nobility as a life peer with the title Baron Pritchard , of West Haddon in the County of Northamptonshire, and was a member of the House of Lords until his death almost three years later . Its official introduction ( Introduction ) into the House of Lords took place on February 25, 1975 with the support of James Turner, 1st Baron Netherthorpe and William McFadzean, Baron McFadzean . He gave his maiden speech ( Maiden Speech ) in the House of Lords on July 9, 1975 on the performance of Britain's export economy.

Most recently, he also served among others as director of Franklin Templeton Investment Management Limited and Franklin Templeton Global Investors Limited, two to the San Mateo, California -based investment company Franklin Templeton Investments belonging to companies.
