A Beginning ( English , A Beginning ') is an orchestral work of the British band The Beatles , however, from the year 1968. It was published only in 1996. The song was the producer of the band George Martin composes and arranges.

A Beginning was originally called orchestral introduction of the song Do not Pass Me By by Ringo Starr thought. Ultimately, however, the recording was discarded in favor of an introduction on a piano .

The piece was recorded on July 22, 1968 in London's Abbey Road Studios . It was produced by George Martin, assisted by Ken Scott . The Beatles themselves were not involved in either the composition or the recording of the piece.

After the new Beatles songs Free As A Bird and Real Love were released on the albums Anthology 1 and Anthology 2 in 1995 and 1996, a new Beatles song should also appear on the third album in the series. For this purpose, the Beatles Paul McCartney , George Harrison and Ringo Starr, who were still alive at the time, began to revise the Lennon composition Now and Then . Harrison, however, was dissatisfied with the result, so this project was canceled. Instead of Now and Then , the then unreleased work A Beginning was released on October 28, 1996 as the first song on the album Anthology 3 . However, the work had previously been used in 1969 in a short passage from the soundtrack of the film Yellow Submarine .
