Derek Shirley
Derek Shirley (* 1975 in Ottawa ) is a Canadian jazz bassist.
Shirley studied jazz bass at McGill University's music department and performed in Canada and the USA with bands such as Zebradonk and The Woodchoppers Association before moving to Berlin in 2001.
Here he performed with David Moss , Michael Griener , Mathias Bauer , Chris Dahlgren , Tony Buck and the Neue Dresdner Kammermusik , among others . He is a member of Michael Thieke's bands Hotel guests (with guitarist Dave Bennett ) and Unununium (with Steve Heather , Christian Weber , Luca Venitucci , Martin Siewert and Eric Schaefer ). He also plays in Paul Brody's Tango Toy , the group Coal Oven and the noise rock band Monno (with Antoine Chessex , Gilles Aubry and Marc Fantini ).
