The King's Executioner is the sixth music album by Saltatio Mortis and the third on which they play medieval rock . It was released on August 29, 2005.

Booklet design

The booklet design of the CD, as always, took Master Flux, which is a permanent member of the band and is also responsible for the pyrotechnics at concerts. In the booklet, the members of the band are represented with a crown that shows the spikes outwards. This crown also adorns the back of the booklet. Most of the band members show a suffering impression. In the middle of the booklet are the thanks of the band and the individual members, who among other things also go to other bands in their scene. The occupation and production locations are also listed.

Music genre

The music shows strong changes compared to the two previous rock albums "The Second Face" (2002) and "Awakening" (2004). Electronic elements have been completely dispensed with and the medieval instruments take a back seat. Alea now takes over a large part of the vocals and no longer sings as clearly as on the previous ones. It is medieval rock, with the exception of the music on "Ecce Gratum" which, unlike the rest of the album, is purely medieval, which means that no electronic instruments were used.

Lyrics

The lyrics are more about death, for example in "The King's Executioner" ( "I am the King's executioner, my hand holds the guillotine. Damn to live death, gamble away my salvation" ), "Dead Eyes" and "Tritt ein" ( "The ax was sharpened, many a woman was already torn by it. The stench came from the room, of a dreamed lifelong dream, in the room there they hung, hung up like slaughterhouse cattle. In shock, their bodies froze, as if they were rooted to the ground" ). A poem of the same name by Hermann Hesse was used as the text for the song "Verführer" and for "Ecce Gratum" song 143 by Carmina Burana , a collection of songs from the 11th and 12th centuries, was recorded.

Others

The album is the last one from Saltatio Mortis for Dominor, Die Fackel und Ungemach. They announced their split from the band in 2006.
