Saint-Pierre-du-Lorouër is a small French community in Arrondissement Le Mans in the department of Sarthe in the region Pays de la Loire . It belongs to the canton of Château-du-Loir , is located between the cities of Le Mans (37 km away) and Tours (52 km) and is nine kilometers from Le Grand-Lucé . In the southwest, the 55 km² Forêt de Bercé borders on the municipality.

Saint-Pierre-du-Lorouër suffered greatly from the rural exodus . In 1962 the village had 496 inhabitants, in 1990 it was only 301. Since then the number of inhabitants has increased again slightly and is 377 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017).

Mayor has been Noël Leroux since 2014. Didier Vérité held the office from 2008 to 2014, before that Philippe Papin, who previously ran for the green party Les Verts , but was later non-party ( divers gauche ).

Saint-Pierre church

The church of Saint-Pierre-du-Lorouër probably originally dates from the 11th or 12th century and was structurally changed until the 16th century. The wall paintings from the 13th century ( The funeral of Renaud ) are remarkable .
