Saint-Jean-de-la- Motte is a French municipality with 968 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Sarthe in the region Pays de la Loire . It belongs to the arrondissement La Flèche and the canton Le Lude (until 2015: canton Pontvallain ). The inhabitants are called Mottais .

Saint-Jean-de-la-Motte is about 31 kilometers south-southwest of Le Mans . Saint-Jean-de-la-Motte is surrounded by the neighboring communities of La Fontaine-Saint-Martin in the north, Oizé in the northeast, Mansigné in the east, Luché-Pringé in the south, Mareil-sur-Loir in the southwest, and Clermont-Créans in the west and southwest and Ligron to the west and northwest.
The former route nationale 23 (today's D323) runs through the municipality .
