Le Grand-Lucé is a French commune of the Canton of Château-du-Loir in the department of Sarthe in the region Pays de la Loire . It is located between the cities of Le Mans (28 km away) and Tours (61 km). The municipality has 1923 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017), who are called Lucéens .
Le Grand-Lucé is first mentioned in 1039 when the Baron of Château-du-Loir erected a moth there. From 1761 to 1764 the fortification was razed under Jacques Pineau de Viennay and a new castle was built. In 1781 a fire destroyed the entire village.
