Le Lude is a French commune with 4,255 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the district of La Flèche in the department of Sarthe in the region Pays de la Loire .
Le Lude is a small town on the Loir , with a listed old town center around the castle and the castle park. In the old alleys around the main square, the houses are lined up, most of which are already listed in the Napoleonic cadastre. Under the main square is an old slate mine, the caves of which are filled with water. The entrance can be viewed through a large mirror. Sometimes it happens that a cave roof collapses. This happened a few years ago in a wine shop at the place in the warehouse, where the stored wine barrels were too heavy and fell into the depths.
The Château du Lude (11th century) is the largest tourist attraction, but there are other angles, houses, corners and prospects to explore. On the route of the abandoned railway line, a walking path was created that leads past the gardens, under bridges to almost the next town, and where you can also ride a bike.
The town has a campsite, a swimming pool, two sports stadiums and a historic hospital. Every year the big "Vide de Grenier" takes place, a large, private flea market.
On January 1, 2018, the neighboring commune Dissé-sous-le-Lude was incorporated.
