From the Ashes is Saltatio Mortis' seventh album and the fourth on which they play medieval rock . It was released on August 31, 2007 and went to number 29 of the German album top 100 by Media Control.

Booklet design

The design of the CD was also done by Florian “Magister Flux” Lacina, who is also responsible for the pyrotechnics at concerts. As with The King's Executioner , next to the lyrics there is also a picture of each of the members of the band. Like the entire album, the images are kept in red and black, which symbolizes belonging to the fire, as well as the phoenix rising “from the ashes” on the cover picture. In the middle of the booklet there are thanks from the band and the individual members, who also go to other bands in their scene. The occupation and production locations are also listed.

Music genre

The music and vocals are very similar to the style of the previous album. Again, compared to older albums, the songs are heavier and heavily geared towards electric guitars and bagpipes . The limited version of the CD also features the song Falsche Freunde from the album Awakening, a new edition of the song in the band's new style.

Lyrics

The lyrics of the songs show a broad spectrum of action. From mythology ( Prometheus ) to fairy tales ( Seven Ravens ) to criticism of society ( Throw the first stone ), various topics are represented. Easy but mostly the subject of Medieval shows Spielmanns which is sung directly in several songs ( Spielmannsschwur , We own the world ) or is partly mentioned in the text ( Death and the Devil ). On this album, too, there are two songs with traditional texts in a foreign language : the Swedish Varulfen (German: werewolf ) and the French Choix des Dames (German: women's choice ). The lyrics of the songs Koma and Nothing Remains are a small exception . Coma , like the other songs, can not only be transferred to the present day, but also describes the impressions that Alea experienced on the deathbed of a friend suffering from AIDS . Even Nothing is more in this regard is an exception, it is the only band's own song whose text was written out without Lasterbalk, but only of Alea, which it describes his feelings after the three former members had left the band.

Worth mentioning

  • After the former members Dominor, Fackel and Unmade split up from the band, this is the first album by the new band line-up.
  • While albums with medieval market music and medieval rock have been released alternately , Aus der Asche is the second album in a row that can be ascribed to medieval rock after The King's Henker .
