Destination Wedding is an American romantic comedy film from the year 2018 by Victor Levin with Winona Ryder and Keanu Reeves in the lead roles. In Germany, the film was released on August 2, 2018. The film opened in Austria on August 3, 2018.
action
Lindsay and Frank meet by chance at the airport and can't stand each other from the start. However, they find out that not only are they traveling on the same plane, but they are also traveling to the same destination. They are both on their way to a wedding in the vineyards of El Paso de Robles in California . Neither of them actually feel like it at all. Lindsay is the groom's ex-fiancee, who left her shortly before the wedding. She is traveling to the wedding to finally close this chapter for herself.
Frank is the half-brother of the groom and thinks he is an idiot. He was only invited out of courtesy. Neither of them can stand the bride. These found commonalities soon outweigh the original antipathy and so the two emotionally somewhat broken loners join together to somehow survive the wedding weekend. After all, Frank and Lindsay have to admit that they actually find each other pretty sympathetic and attractive.
production
Filming took place in California until August 2017 . The film was produced by Gail Lyon (Sunshine Pictures), Elizabeth Dell (Two Camel Films) and Robert Jones (The Fyzz Facility). After Bram Stoker's Dracula (1992), A Scanner Darkly (2006) and Pippa Lee (2009), the film is the fourth collaboration between Winona Ryder and Keanu Reeves . Director and screenwriter Victor Levin previously worked primarily as a producer and screenwriter for television, including the comedy series Crazy About You . After From 5 to 7 - A Somewhat Different Love Story it is the second feature film by Victor Levin. The stylistic device of focusing on the two main actors is unusual, as none of the other contributors have a say.
reception
Alexandra Seitz found in the Berliner Zeitung that the dialogues were indeed sharp-tongued and that the blows between Winona Ryder and Keanu Reeves were served bone-dry and at a very high speed, but that there would be no comedic mood.
Martin Schwickert said in the Hannoversche Allgemeine Zeitung that the film would live from the speed of the razor-sharp dialogues that Ryder and Reeves dryly give each other. “That is entertaining for just under an hour and a half in the cinema, but it shouldn't go on for a second. The sarcasm wears off significantly in the long run, and one is relieved to be able to say goodbye to these previously entertaining nuisances after going to the cinema. "
Peter Slavin wrote in TV-Media that the comedy did not come close to the quality of Harry and Sally , but the dialogues were very amusing and the chemistry between the main actors was right.
Antje Wessels writes on film starts , the author and director Victor Levin "above all ensures that it is always a pleasure to listen to the dissolute dialogues that are bursting with illuminating ideas and amusing moments" and "The chemistry between the actors could be in hers It is better not to be disharmony. Both act so subtly that even the slightest hint of affection can be felt. They do without large gestures and show all the more charisma. "
