Destroyed but Not Defeated is an Austrian band from Vienna .

Band history

Destroyed but Not Defeated was 2011 by Ian Miller (drums / vocals) Helmuth "Lelo" Brossmann (guitar / bass / vocals, ex- Litterbox , ex- Shy , Kreisky ) and Markus Reiter (guitar / bass / vocals, ex- Mord , ex- The Maybe Man ). The band name is based on a sentence from the novel The Old Man and the Sea by Ernest Hemingway , which men can be destroyed but not defeated. The band signed to Living Room Records and released their self-titled debut album in 2012. The main songwriters were initially Brossmann and Ian Miller. However, Miller got out in 2013 and was replaced by Clemens Franke ( Iljas ). The band had to take a break beforehand because Markus Reiter broke his arm while cycling.

The second album Now for the Encore , which was released in September 2015, was created within two to three months . Patricia Ziegler from We Walk Walls sings along with the song It's Over .

The EP The World Is Changing and So Must We followed in 2016 .

The third album Deluxe Redux was released in 2018 and brought together a number of guest musicians, including the singer Eloui , Bernd Supper ( The Scarabeusdream ) and Wolfgang Schlögl on the accordion and theremin .

Music genre

The band plays indie rock , which is essentially based on role models such as Hüsker Dü , Dinosaur Jr. , Guided by Voices , Built to Spill and Flaming Lips . The classic three-person instrumentation is deliberately kept minimalistic and dispenses with electronic gimmicks. On Deluxe Redux , however, the band also opened up to other influences and integrated keyboards, accordion and theremin on the album.
