Detlef Selhausen (born October 22, 1955 in Neustadt am Rübenberge ) is a German lawyer and was National Armaments Director of the Federal Republic of Germany from 2011 to 2014 and a ministerial official in the Federal Ministry of Defense from 1993 to 2014 .

Life

Detlef Selhausen studied law and became active in the Corps Palaiomarchia-Masovia in Kiel in 1978 . After his state exams in 1988, he joined what was then Defense Division I in Kiel. In 1993 he moved to the Federal Ministry of Defense and went through various stations there. From June 2009 to March 2012, he was Head of Armaments Department and, as part of the realignment of the Bundeswehr , became Head of Department for Equipment, Information Technology and Utilization in April 2012, and since February 2011 he has been National Armaments Director and thus responsible for the Bundeswehr's procurement projects; he was therefore directly subordinate to the relevant State Secretary . Among other things, he was responsible for the Euro Hawk project during this time .

In February 2014, Minister Ursula von der Leyen decided to dismiss State Secretary Stéphane Beemelmans , who is responsible for armaments , and to relieve Selhausen from his department head function. From May 2014 to May 2015 Selhausen was on leave to serve as Managing Director BwFuhrparkService GmbH to lead a state-owned company, in which the Defense 75.1% of the shares holds.

Role in the G36 affair

As a department head, Selhausen was responsible, among other things, for the procurement of rifles. At the urging of the G36 manufacturer Heckler & Koch , Selhausen is said to have turned to the Military Counter-Intelligence Service (MAD) to prevent critical reporting on the rifle. According to the Ministry of Defense, Selhausen is to be put into temporary retirement after he was released from his position as managing director of BwFuhrparkService on May 11, 2015 .
