Detlev Bork
Detlev Bork (born April 9, 1967 in Kiel ) is a German classical guitarist and flamenco guitarist.
biography
Bork received piano lessons at an early age and sang in the Kiel boys' choir . At the age of 10 he started with flamenco guitar , later classical guitar was added. From 1988 to 1993 he studied classical guitar at the Cologne University of Music, Aachen department with Tadashi Sasaki and later in London with Carlos Bonell . He took part in master classes with Abel Carlevaro , Eduardo Fernández , Alberto Ponce , José Tomás, Luise Walker and others.
He studied flamenco guitar with various teachers in Spain, especially with Andrés Batista, Luis Maravilla and Felix de Utrera in Madrid, where he also worked with singers and dancers, a. a. at the “Amor de Dios” in Madrid .
He also studied opera singing at the Cologne University of Music with Klaus Jürgen Küper and Margarete van den Eynden.
Bork has performed as a soloist, chamber musician and with orchestras all over Europe, Israel, North and South America. He has been awarded various prizes and several of his CDs have been voted CD of the month, so u. a. “The Other Spanish Guitar” in March 2000 in the USA (Diamond Multimedia, CA, USA). In
2018 he was the solo guitarist of the " Staatsballett Berlin ". In concerts he also appears in a duo with the flamenco guitarist Oscar Herrero.
Bork's keen interest in contemporary music has led to a number of commissions from living composers, which he has premiered and in some cases recorded (see below).
Today he lives and works in Heidelberg . In addition to his artistic and educational work, he is also active as a musicologist. He has written articles for specialist magazines such as "Stereoplay", "Staccato", "Classical Guitar" and "Ensemble". With over 8000 recordings, he has one of the largest private collections of recorded classical guitar music in the world and works with international archives and institutions. Together with Jörg Jewanski, he has contributed to numerous biographies of guitarists in the German encyclopedia Die Musik in Geschichte und Gegenwart (MGG) (Kassel: Bärenreiter, 1996–2008). Bork has contributed research to guitar symposia and festivals, including a. to the Lake Konstanz Guitar Research Meeting , the El Paso String Series etc. Since 2013 he has been a visiting lecturer at Pepperdine University , Malibu .
