Luise Walker

Luise Walker (born September 9, 1910 in Vienna ; † January 30, 1998 ) was an Austrian guitarist and guitar teacher at the Vienna University of Music.

Life

Luise Walker studied first with Josef Zuth , later with Jakob Ortner at the Vienna University of Music . She continued her studies with Heinrich Albert , Miguel Llobet , Emilio Pujol and Andrés Segovia . In 1940 she became a professor at the University of Music in Vienna, where, like Karl Scheit , she led her own class. Many of her students, including Roland Neuwirth , achieved a high level of awareness. Luise Walker was one of the most important Austrian guitarists and gave concerts all over the world. In 1990 she supported the founding of the Guitar Festival Forum Guitar Vienna and led the first master classes there.

She is the holder of the Golden Medal of Honor for Science and Art , the Golden Medal of Honor for Services to the Republic of Austria , the Gold Medal of Honor of the Federal Capital Vienna , the Gold Medal of Merit of the University of Music and Performing Arts, magister artium of the University of Music Graz.
