Forum Guitar Vienna

The Guitar Forum Vienna is an international music festival with a music competition in Vienna. It has been taking place since 1990 and has developed into one of the most important, prestigious and renowned guitar festivals in Europe.

The event includes weeklong master classes led by international guitarists, daily concerts and an international guitar competition . There will also be lectures and workshops. The music festival is accompanied by an instrument exhibition by numerous renowned guitar makers as well as a sheet music and book exhibition with music publishers such as Musikverlag Doblinger , Joachim Trekel and Chanterelle.

history

The Guitar Forum Vienna was founded by the guitarists Jorgos Panetsos and Gerald Smrzek and took place for the first time from September 13th to 19th, 1992 in the Mauerbach Charterhouse . The Austrian guitarist and university professor Prof. Luise Walker and Prof. Dieter Kreidler from Germany gave individual and seminar lessons. In 1993 and 1994 the Guitar Forum took place in Palais Rasumofsky in Vienna , in 1995 and 1996 the organizers moved to Palais Wittgenstein , Palais Pálffy hosted the Guitar Festival in 1997 and since 1998 the Guitar Forum has been held in the Prayner Conservatory for Music and Dramatic Art in Vienna . The Vienna Konzerthaus has also been the venue since 2018 .

It soon found international recognition thanks to its high artistic level. It is now the largest festival for classical guitar in Austria.
