Stephan Beck

Stephan Beck (* 1974 in Schwäbisch Gmünd ) is a German organist and university professor .

Life

Beck studied school music and church music ( A-exam ) at the State University for Music and Performing Arts in Stuttgart . He supplemented this training with master classes with Jean Boyer in Lyon and Daniel Roth in Paris, among others .

From 1997 to 2001 Beck held a teaching position at the Schwäbisch Gmünd University of Education , where he has been teaching the subjects of ensemble management, practical school piano, piano and organ since 2001 in the music department. He is also the director of the university choir and the university orchestra. From 2002 to 2011 he was also a lecturer for practical piano playing at the State University for Music and Performing Arts in Stuttgart.

In 1999 Beck took over the position of the Münster organist on the Klais organ of the Gmünder Münster from his father Hubert Beck and has also been the Münster choir director there since 2011 . He is a member of the board of directors of the European Church Music Festival in Schwäbisch Gmünd and has been a permanent member of the jury of the international competition for organ improvisation within the framework of the festival since 2009 . He is also the artistic director of the Philharmonic Choir Schwäbisch Gmünd. Various concert tours have taken him to other European countries and overseas.

At Christmas 2017, as part of the festivities in Gmünder Heilig-Kreuz-Münster, it was announced that Beck would be appointed church music director. On February 23, 2018, he was awarded the title by the Diocese of Rottenburg-Stuttgart in Gmünder Franziskaner .
