German-Polish Journalism Prize

The German-Polish Journalist Prize Tadeusz Mazowiecki honors the best articles that reported fairly and openly about the respective neighboring country and that were broadcast, printed or published on the radio, television or print media from January 1st to December 31st in the previous year. A jury made up of journalists and representatives of the award sponsors will select the best contributions. Prizes of 5,000 euros each will be awarded for the three categories of print, radio and television. It was named in 2013 after the Polish publicist, civil rights activist and politician Tadeusz Mazowiecki (1927–2013).

The publications submitted are intended to specifically contribute to broadening the knowledge of Germans and Poles about one another, to improving mutual understanding of politics, business, science, culture and society, to bringing everyday life on both sides closer to the respective neighbor and to living together in the European Union to promote.

The German-Polish Journalism Prize was launched in 1997 by the government spokesmen for Brandenburg , Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and Saxony as well as the voivodship spokesmen for Grünberg ( Zielona Góra ), Landsberg ( Gorzów Wielkopolski ), Hirschberg ( Jelenia Góra ) and Stettin ( Szczecin ). After the territorial reform in 1999, the award will be carried out on the Polish side by the newly organized West Pomeranian , Lebus and Lower Silesia voivodeships . The German and Polish regions take turns as hosts every year. In 2012 Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania was the host. Since 2008, the Journalist Award has two new partners, the Robert Bosch Foundation and the Foundation for German-Polish Cooperation . The two foundations support this competition as part of the German-Polish Media Days .
