The championship title in the endurance run over 25 kilometers fell to the Norwegian Thorvald Heyerdahl , as did that in the jump race .
Short Story
The championship runs for Germany in the endurance run over 25 kilometers and in the jump races were announced by the Black Forest Ski Club, as they had been since 1900, and were held on January 31 and February 2 as part of the three-day snowshoe races on the Feldberg. The championships were advertised internationally, which meant that foreign athletes could also take part and achieve the title of German champion . The winner received the Golden Ski of the Black Forest Ski Club , the second and third place honors and diplomas. Also this year three skiers from Norway took part in the competitions. The defending champion in both championship competitions from the previous year, Lieutenant Thorleif Bache , had not come.
In addition to the championship races, other races were held on the first and third day, including military, popular, youth and women’s skiing. In the endurance run for the championship in the Black Forest Ski Club, Henry Hoek and Rudolf Biehler shared a victory , whereupon both of them were awarded first prize, but the championship title was not awarded. Traditionally, the hunter battalions stationed in Alsace took part in the competitions .
By the then or later known skiers won Bruno Biehler the student endurance, Rudolf Biehler won the Junior Jumping, in the Oscar Mayer , son of Feldbergerhofwirtes finished third and hunters race was the first chief hunter Balke of 8 Infantry Battalion from Schlettstadt the finish, who was to win the German championship in cross-country skiing the following year.
In contrast to last year, the ski races took place in good weather. Only on the second day of the event there were heavier snowfalls and fewer snowstorms in between.

Route: Belchen - Feldberg - Feldberger Hof.
The competition started with a descent from the summit of the Belchen (1,414 m) over a length of 25 kilometers over the summit of the Feldberg (1,493 m) to the finish at the Feldberger Hof (1,300 m). The skiers had to cope with runs of 800 meters and inclines of 700 meters. The weather conditions were described as very favorable.
After the defending champion Thorleif Bache had not come and the other Norwegians had only registered for the ski jumping, the young Freiburg Rudolf Biehler , who had grown more and more to a top runner in the years before, was considered the favorite for his first championship title. At the last moment, Thorvald Heyerdahl named after the cross-country skiing competition and won the German championship in a new record time of 2 hours 30 minutes. Biehler took second place with a very good performance. Third placed was the Swiss businessman Alfred Stingelin from Basel, who had already taken second place in the Bismarck race last year.

The athletes each had to complete a total of three jumps, of which the longest jump was counted.
Thorleif Bache , last year's winner did not appear this time. Thorvald Heyerdahl and Anders Holte, who won first prizes at ski jumping in Glarus in Switzerland a week earlier with 22 and 20 meters, as well as another young jumper named Anke , had registered from the Norwegians . To the disappointment of the audience, Holte refrained from appearing and did not offer his compatriot Anke anything unusual either. Only Thorvald Heyerdahl, who is studying in Darmstadt , showed a very good performance with a jump of 19 meters as hoped and was crowned German ski jumping champion for 1903. The places behind him were occupied by Oscar Mayer from the Todtnau section of the Black Forest ski club and Rudolf Biehler from the Freiburg Section.
With Heyerdahl, a Norwegian won the German ski jumping championship for the third time in a row.
