It was the second Kirchentag in Frankfurt am Main, after 1956 . As early as 1968 there were initiatives by the Kirchentag and the Central Committee of German Catholics for an ecumenical Pentecost meeting in 1971 in Frankfurt am Main. However, this could not be enforced, as Frankfurt was not considered safe due to the student movement and the department store arson on April 2, 1968 . Instead , the Ecumenical Whitsun Meeting in 1971 was held in Augsburg , the city of Augsburg's religious peace .
The 1975 Kirchentag slogan referred to this discussion again. In the invitation, Kirchentag President Sontheimer formulated: “It is not entirely by chance that the motto of the Kirchentag 1975 'In angst - and see, we live' is thematized in an economic metropolis in which the forms of threat to human existence in the industrial mass society are particularly virulent are."
