The German Council for Bird Protection e. V. (DRV) is an umbrella organization for bird protection of committed organizations in Germany. The president is Andreas von Lindeiner ( LBV ), the vice presidents are Lars Lachmann ( NABU ) and Ulrich Mäck ( Ornithological Society Baden-Württemberg , OGBW).
history
The association goes back to the German section in the International Council for Bird Preservation, English name International Council for Bird Preservation (today BirdLife International ). The section was (presumably) founded in 1928, but documents are no longer available today. After the dissolution in National Socialist Germany and the Second World War, the association was re-established on March 27, 1950 with 11 member associations. In short, from 1967 to 1972, the DRV also included the German Falcon Order , which was excluded from the association in 1972 after heated debates. In the course of the controversy about hunting birds, the German Hunting Protection Association (DJV) resigned in 1974 . Until 1993, the Federal Agency for Nature and Landscape Management (forerunner of the Federal Agency for Nature Conservation), an organization of official nature conservation, was a member of the council. In 1991 the West German Association merged with the former GDR section of the International Council for Bird Conservation.
In 1971 the DRV published the first Red List , which was the first national list of endangered bird species.
Task and work
Since 2010 the implementation of the EU bird protection directive , the national biodiversity strategy and the changes in the landscape in Germany that have arisen with the energy transition have emerged as the main focus of work .
One of the goals of the DRV is to intensify the dialogue between state and nature conservation associations in order to politically enforce measures necessary for bird protection.
The DRV publishes the magazine "Reports on Bird Protection" . This publishes the Red List of Germany's breeding birds , which is currently available in its 5th version from November 30, 2015. The office is at the LBV in Hilpoltstein.
