The German school Kadriorg ( estn . Kadrioru Saksa Gümnaasium ) is a school in Estonia , the intensive and compulsory German courses offered in the second grade. German has been taught at the school since 1962 , which is why it is one of the schools with the longest German tradition in Estonia.

Two spatially separate school buildings are currently part of the German grammar school Kadriorg. The traditional main building is located at 38 Gonsiori Street in the Kadriorg District in the Kesklinn District . All students from the sixth grade are accommodated in this building. The school got its name from its location in the Kadriorg district. The second building of the German grammar school Kadriorg was integrated into the school in 2016 and houses the first to fifth grades. It is located at 9 Kivimurru Street in Sikupilli District, Lasnamäe District .

In the seventh and eighth grades, geography is also taught in German for one hour per week.

history

The school was founded in 1960 under the name “42. Tallinn Middle School ”(Estonian Tallinna 42. Keskkool ). Intensive German lessons began as early as 1962 with the help of the German teacher Emerendiana Silling . From 1974 the school bore the name of Lembit Pärn , but in the course of the political changes at the end of the Soviet Union in 1991 it was re-named “42. Tallinn Middle School ”. After a short period between 1992 and 1998, when the school was called “Tallinn University of Applied Sciences Kadriorg”, since 1998 it has been called “Kadrioru Saksa Gümnaasium”.

The school has been part of the German Language Diploma Schools ( DSD ) since 1996 and is an examination center for the German tests of the same name.

Currently (2017) Imbi Viisma is the director of the school. Ulrika Kuusk heads the primary school (1st to 5th grade), Terje Esko the 6th to 9th grade and Mihkel Kõrbe the upper grade (10th to 12th grade) .

A total of around 75 teachers are responsible for teaching the around 900 students at the German Gymnasium Kadriorg.

Since the 2014/15 school year, a German-speaking volunteer has been sent to the German Gymnasium Kadriorg, who is involved in the classroom and motivates the students to use their language skills in real speaking situations.

Partner schools

The school has partnerships with five German schools, the Trittau grammar school , the Emil-von-Behring grammar school Grosshansdorf, the Goethe grammar school Reichenbach / V, the BBS-Syke in Lower Saxony and the Evangelical Heidehof grammar school in Stuttgart. Cooperation in the musical field is particularly sought with these schools, but also projects on the business language German.
