The DFZ 632 is an industrial tractor that was mass-produced in the German Democratic Republic between 1965 and 1989. The machines were used in internal traffic at various companies, but were also in service with the National People's Army , the Deutsche Reichsbahn , the post office and in mining. They could be equipped as forklifts and, depending on their equipment, were approved for trailer loads of up to 11 tons despite their small size. A version with a weaker V2 diesel engine was built under the designation DFZ 322 . In the vernacular of the GDR, the vehicles were known as Pomßen tugs , derived from their first production site in Pomßen near Leipzig.

The DFZ 632 had already been preceded by other small tugs for similar tasks from GDR production. These included types S1 , S2 and S3, which were manufactured by Brandiser Maschinen- und Apparatebau KG . The Picco I dumper, for example, also came from this factory . Information about when series production of the DFZ 632 began fluctuates. While some sources cite 1965 as the first year of series production, others state that development began in 1965 and that series production did not begin until 1968. Manufacturer was initially the VEB small tractor Pomßen in Pomßen, first in the 1980s, production was completely the VEB Oberlausitzer steel construction and vehicle Joke George Bell joke in the near Löbau lying Municipality George joke -Bellwitz laid. At this point in time, both companies were already subordinate to the Robur works in Zittau and thus also belonged to the Vehicle Construction Association (IFA). The designation DFZ in the vehicle name stands for diesel driver's seat tractor .

Various components of the tractor were delivered from other factories in the GDR. The engines came from the Cunewalde engine factory . There were two types of engine: a V2 diesel engine with 800 cc and 15 hp and a V4 diesel engine with 1600 cc and 30 hp. The manual transmission with four forward gears is unsynchronized. The rear axle came from Robur and, apart from the width, was identical to that of the trucks manufactured there . The tank was partly the same as in the Trabant 601 .

The vehicle was redesigned towards the end of the 1960s. The formerly round bonnet was replaced by a square product, also made of GRP . The vehicles could be delivered with or without a hood and windshield. Optionally, a lifting mast was attached to the front, to which pallet forks or a snow blade for winter service could be attached. A compressed air brake with a trailer connection was also optional. If the tugs were equipped with one and motorized with 30 HP, the permissible trailer load was 11 tons.

The small tugs were used in many places in the GDR, for example underground at the SDAG Wismut , at train stations for the transport of baggage carts and at the NVA in rear service in depots and for shunting. They were also exported; a large number of the vehicles were used at Havana Airport . About 300 copies were built each year until 1989. The industrial sales price for a DFZ 332 in the basic version was 10,400 marks, for a DFZ 632 12,300 marks. The option list included additional equipment worth around 4,000 marks (compressed air brake, sliding plate, lifting mast and roof).
