The RS01 tractor with the brand name Pionier is the first tractor built in the GDR . It was initially produced in the VEB HORCH motor vehicle and engine works in Zwickau , later in the newly founded state-owned company (VEB) Schlepperwerk Nordhausen . The technology goes back to a pre-war development of the vehicle and engine works in Breslau , where the first examples rolled off the production line under the name FAMO XL in the 1930s .
The pioneer RS01 / 40
After former employees of the FAMO-Werke ( Breslau ) in Schönebeck had revised the design documents for the Famo-Tractor XL and adapted them to the given production possibilities, the Horchwerk in Zwickau was commissioned with the production, as no production facilities were available in Schönebeck. At the Leipzig trade fair in 1949, a manufactured tractor was exhibited with the Famo emblem. According to the information available, 2250 machines are said to have been manufactured in Zwickau. This pioneer was manufactured from 1949 to 1950. From 1950 production was relocated to the Nordhausen tractor factory. The tug was now called the RS01 Pioneer and was built until 1956. From 1957 the tractor was manufactured in a revised version and was now called RS01 Harz . Production ended in 1958 after 2175 Harz specimens had been built. The discontinuation of production created a gap in the 30-kilowatt power class that was only closed again in the early 1960s with the RS14 / 40.
technology
The RS01 in a frameless block design with a rigid rear axle and a leaf-sprung swing axle at the front is available with or without a driver's cab. The liquid-cooled four - cylinder in - line engine , a diesel engine with pre-chamber injection of the type 4F 145 BE , develops 29.4 kW (40 hp) from a displacement of around 5 liters . For easier starting with the hand crank, petrol is used for starting and then switching to diesel fuel after it has started . The power is transmitted to a mechanical five-speed gearbox with reverse gear via a single-disc dry clutch . Braking is done with an inner shoe brake that acts on the rear wheels. The handbrake is a band brake that acts on the transmission. To force acceptance of the pioneer RS01 has a clutch-dependent PTO paths at a speed of 540 min -1 . A pulley drive was available as an optional extra. From 1953 a new 5-liter 4F 145 DL engine was installed. A vortex chamber injection was used instead of the prechamber and instead of the crank, there was a starter system operated with compressed air ( pneumatically ), which enables the engine to be started with diesel fuel.
The Harz, built from 1957, is a further development of the pioneer. Although this is essentially based on the Pioneer, many points have been extensively revised. Another revised engine of the type 4F 145 DE with vortex chamber injection is used. It has an output of 31 kW. The complicated starting system was replaced by an electric 24 V starter. The gear ratios have been changed. A three-point linkage is available for attachments.
One of the weak points of the tractor is the steering, which can lock when the steering wheel is turned. This is caused by worn chassis parts.
