The hydraulic slewing crane T 157 was produced from 1957 in the VEB Landmaschinenbau "Rotes Banner" Döbeln . The vehicle is based on the RS09 implement carrier . The loader was designed for the domestic market and was intended to increase labor productivity.

Colloquially, the crane is also known as the "onion puller".

Hydraulic slewing crane T 157 (for the construction industry)

T 157, recognizable by the long load arm and the "block steering" with twin tires

The hydraulic slewing crane T 157 was specially developed for use in the construction industry. The T 157 as well as the T 157/1 have a block boom with block steering. The vehicle was initially powered by a license build of the two-cylinder four-stroke diesel engine D 21 from J. Warchalowski . With an 8-speed gearbox, the T 157 reaches speeds between 0.6 km / h and 15 km / h. The boom can be equipped with a load hook, a gripper, a pair of pliers, a vacuum lifter or an earth auger. The vehicle cost 36,000 marks .

T 157/1 of an MTS with a short load arm

The T 157/1 was a T 157 specified for use in agriculture and forestry. The main differences were the shortened load arm and the support, which was neither extendable nor swiveling, but lay in the wheel track line. The device was particularly suitable for clearing out muck stalls where the load could be up to 1.40 m lower than the vehicle itself. The clear height is 3.30 m with a swivel range of 210 °. The maximum lifting load was 750  kp . The vehicle cost 36,000 marks .

The hydraulic universal loader T 157/2 "Up" is a constructive further development of the T 157/1 with the aim of universal use in the construction industry and agriculture. Series production began after 1960. The main difference lies in the redesign of the boom and steering. The slewing ring with the crane part rests on steel balls. The lower and upper articulated boom are each raised or lowered by a luffing cylinder. The frame consists of an axial tube with side rails that are stiffened with cross braces. The large twin tires and the hydraulically extendable outriggers offer relatively good stability. The front axle is suspended pendulum. The air-cooled 18 HP (13.2 kW) diesel engine and the gearbox are located above the rear axle, under the driver's seat. With tools such as manure grabs, shell grabs, polyp grabs, hooks, auger and others, the T157 / 2 can be used as a hoist for crane and grab operations as well as for earthworks and civil engineering work. The vehicle cost 26,400 marks .
