After the Second World War , BVG was initially only able to fall back on the pre-war fleet. However, since most of the cars came from the 1920s and 1930s, a replacement for the outdated fleet was necessary. Initially, BVG-Ost designed six prototypes in 1954 in the “main workshop for omnibus” in Berlin-Treptow . The series vehicles were manufactured between 1955 and 1957 at Waggonbau Bautzen .

The cars were based on the IFA H6 truck model . As with the previous models, the superstructures were made of wood. The rear entrances, which were initially open, were closed with folding doors due to security regulations in 1963/64. In 1974 the last car of the type was retired. The majority of the vehicles were then acquired by private individuals and continued to be used as workshops or gazebos .

The Berlin Historic Transport Preservation Association (DVNB) acquired the 929 car, which was also used as an arbor, in 1989 and refurbished it. In October 2005, the car called "Hugo" was approved so that it is now available for special trips.
