The German Trade Office Taipei (DWB) ( English: German Trade Office Taipei, Chinese: 德國 經濟 辦事處 ) was founded in 1981 as a delegation of German business by the German Chamber of Commerce and Industry ( DIHK ) to promote economic relations between Germany and Taiwan and to represent the interests of German companies in Taiwan. It is the name for the German-Taiwanese Chamber of Commerce Abroad .

The DWB is the first point of contact in Taiwan for German companies, provides information on Taiwan and Germany, provides information on investment opportunities in Germany and organizes seminars, network events and specialist symposia. The DWB's sales company, DEinternational Taiwan Ltd., organizes business delegations and market exploration trips, represents German trade fair companies and offers support with bilateral market entry as well as recruiting, professional training, office-in-office and other services.

The DWB is a non-commercial interest group for the German economy in Taiwan. It is the first point of contact in Taiwan for German companies, provides information on Taiwan and Germany, provides information on investment opportunities in Germany and organizes seminars, networking events and specialist symposia. The DWB Taipei is not a membership organization.

DEinternational

DEinternational is the service brand of all German chambers of commerce abroad and offers commercial services under the umbrella of the chambers of commerce abroad. DEinternational Taiwan Ltd. organizes business delegations and market exploration trips, represents German trade fair companies and offers support with bilateral market entry, professional training, office-in-office and other services. DEinternational Taiwan Ltd. is financed by the services offered.

history

Foundation and first years

In 1981, the Taiwanese Foreign Ministry officially approved the establishment of the DWB, whereupon Peter Lemke began his work as the first director of the DWB in a room in the Grand Hotel. Almost a year later, the first DWB event on the subjects of technology transfer and patent rights took place. In 1986 the DWB expanded, leaving the Grand Hotel to move to new accommodation in the Empire Building on Song Jiang Street. In the same year the first delegation from Hamburg visited Taiwan. In 1988 the first German-Taiwanese Joint Business Council took place. During the week-long event, around 7,000 trade visitors came to the largest presentation by 32 German companies to date. In 1989 the DWB moved to Min Sheng East Road.

Since 1990

In 1990 the first signing of a joint venture between a Taiwanese company and an East German company, the first celebration of the DWB on the Day of German Unity , the first conference in Taipei on the new federal states as an investment location and the first Taiwanese delegation to Germany, which with about 40 Taiwanese company representatives visited the new federal states . In 1991 the DWB took over the representation of Messe Berlin . In the years that followed, Messe München , Messe Frankfurt , NürnbergMesse and finally Leipziger Messe were added. In the next few years the DWB received several top-class visitors from Germany, including a. Vice Chancellor and Economics Minister Jürgen Möllemann , Federal Economics Minister Günter Rexrodt and State Secretary Werner Birner.

2000-2010

Since the establishment of the German Institute Taipei in 2000 as an unofficial diplomatic mission in Taiwan, it has been handling all legal and consular matters. Previously, the corresponding work unit was housed under the roof of the DWB. Together with the Taiwanese Council of Labor Affairs , the DWB founded the “Tai-Ger Project” in 2003 for the introduction of the German dual vocational training, which was successfully completed in December 2010. In 2004 the DWB organized the product show “GerMany Styles” in Taipei , Hsinchu , Tainan and Kaohsiung for the first time . In 2008, the digital newsletter “Infobrief Taiwan” was published in German for the first time; since then it has been published weekly.

Since 2010

"InfoBrief Germany" was published in Chinese for the first time in 2010 and has been published once a quarter since then. In the same year the DWB moved again. The current office is located in the International Trade Building, in the center of Taipei's business and financial district . In 2011, DWB celebrated the 30th anniversary of the office and the ongoing positive economic relations between Taiwan and Germany.
